Vegan MoFo Day 8: Canadian Thanksgiving, Pumpkin Pie and Chumpcakes

Well I must confess that completing the cupcake list has been difficult but I am still up to the challenge. There was one day where I was completely out of commission due to an infection - nothing to worry about.  There was another day where the hormones of being a new Mama for the third time combined with the lack of hours in a day collided to leave me a mess.  Then there was the day when I actually completed one of my cupcake to-dos and my little family took it upon themselves to devour the deliciousness while I napped (So no photograph for that day but I can tell you they were tasty and maple).

But my Vegan MoFo was rejuvenated with the best of all holidays:  Tofurkey Day!  At least one day in the weekend, the Papa and our family (mine through love and marriage and his through biology) gather to share in the vegan goodness.  Although the Papa's parents aren't vegans they make the entire spread vegan for their 5 granddaughters, children and their spouses.  It is absolutely divine.  The Papa always makes the most delicious of pumpkin pies.  I contribute a stove-top stuffing and cranberry sauce.  The Honourable El makes the most amazing Double Chocolate Chip Cookies whose recipe can be found here.  (NOTE:  if you want to experience transcendence MAKE THESE COOKIES!!!!)

This year we gathered on the Saturday and it was marvellous.  The cousins play so well together.  Each takes on a role based on their birth ages and they simply enjoy!  The second generation (we) get to chat with each other and catch up on the small or big changes in our lives.  It is a chance to reconnect and laugh and share.  The G-units get to watch the magic happen and usually let us all experience the best of everything.

On the Sunday:

We went for an amazing hike in the woods and noshed on pumpkin pie, stuffing and samosas on a cliff overlooking a small town.  It is so nice to see the autumn leaves from the sky.

On this day:

We enjoyed the weather with a bike ride and a park jaunt.  We spent the afternoon making more Tofurkey-liciousness and I completed the Chumpcakes (or Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Cupcakes).  These cupcakes share a special place in our hearts because I made about 100 of these suckers for our wedding on Halloweeny 2 years ago (which can be viewed here).

A BLOG WORTHY SUNDAY

After a difficult Saturday night, due to Mama's cold and Charlotte's non-sleeping which led to a 3 AM Chariot Ride, we had a great SUNDAY! The G-Units came with the boat and gave us a little spin up the Tay. Although Charlotte was so excited, Harriet was less than amused. We stopped at the first set of locks where we stretched our legs, I climbed down them and Allen and Charlotte checked out an interested Tug Boat.

We finished our trip and were just about to head out and got a phone call from Grandma. There was an issue with the parking brake and getting the boat out of the water was gonna be an issue. But Dada saved the day! (He has no issue telling me how great he is ;) - and I have no issue agreeing).

After the boat was loaded we headed to Ottawa for Cupcake Camp 2.0. We were only about 5 minutes late and almost ALL the CUPCAKES WERE GONE. (For a review see my blog at www.bad-little-spice.blogspot.com)

After maximum gluttony, we headed over to Pom Pom to visit my love Alyssa briefly. All in all, a great day.

CUPCAKE TASTING

I have been on a real cupcake obsession lately. I am in love with Chicago-ite Natalie's Bake and Destroy blog and Melisser's The Urban Housewife. I love these vegan lovelies. Inspired, I made this "Sexy Low Fat" cupcake from Vegan Cupcakes Take Over the World.

NOTE: Low fat doesn't mean low sugar. All cupcakes should be consumed with caution, for they may cause one to go into a sugar coma!!! LOL. That is why we love them though.

Cupcake Camp - Ottawa 2009

Well, after I spent the morning in Emerg I thought what better way for a pick - me - up than CUPCAKES!!!!  I noticed on Facebook (good ol' ) that two of my friends had been invited to Cupcake Camp.  So I decided that what better way for the fam to spend a Sunday afternoon than eating cupcakes.  The event was held at the Jack Purcell Centre from 2-5 PM.  We arrived at around 2 and the line was incredibly long but we did get in.  Over 3000 cupcakes were baked and tasted.  Can you believe that?!  I indulged in a Vegan Delight, the mini cupcakes photographed above and a delicious white cupcake with pink frosting.  Charlotte later got to sample the delights via breastmilk.  We only stayed for 3 rounds (there was a round every fifteen minutes totaling 10).  And as we left the line had become even bigger.  It trailed around the majority of the top floor, down the stairs, part of the main floor and out the main entrance (there must have been at least 250 people in line).  DELICIOUS!
